Successful Pneumatic Dilation for Achalasia in a Pregnant Woman Using Ultrathin Upper Endoscopy

Abstract
Achalasia is a rare chronic motility disorder of the esophagus, which is diagnosed extremely rarely during pregnancy. Severe and persistent vomiting could lead to fetal and maternal morbidity and mortality. Many medical treatment regimens and invasive procedures are contraindicated or not tolerated during pregnancy. There are no data or guidelines regarding the management of achalasia during pregnancy because of the rarity. Therefore, the best choice for achalasia treatment in pregnancy is not as easy as it seems. We report the case of a 22-year-old pregnant woman with achalasia in the last trimester of pregnancy, treated successfully with pneumatic dilation under time ultrathin upper endoscopy imaging without fluoroscopy.
